Can you believe it's been a year since The House on Foster Hill first released to the world? It's been a whirlwind year and it's so fun to go back and revisit the characters of the book.
Some little known trivia facts about THOFH:
1. The idea of finding a body in a hollowed out tree was not based purely on my imagination. In fact, it's happened more than once in history. This particular story was the one that first planted the idea in my head Click Here To Read (Warning: black and white historical photos of skeletal remains)
2. Human trafficking on the Great Lakes was not uncommon, although it's definitely not something heralded or glorified in the upper midwest history books. One such trafficker of women and other questionable cargo was a pirate by the name of Dan Seavey.
3. In THOFH, Grant Jesse--our modern day hero--has a pet pit bull name Sophie. Contrary to popular
myth, pit bulls are not naturally violent or aggressive dogs. In fact, in the 1800's, pit bulls were dog of choice to serve as "nanny-dogs", protectors of infants and toddlers--not unlike a service dog today. Sophie was based off of a real pitbull friend of mine, who is, for the record, a most AMAZING snuggler!
To celebrate the birthday of The House on Foster Hill, I am giving away a PAW-TOGRAPHED copy of the The House on Foster Hill, paw-printed by Sophie herself! (Also autographed by me, but who cares about that in light of a paw print!). I'm also including a furry, gray book cozy made by my FAVORITE cozy-company, The Cozy Life.
